Rambert Dance Company is Britain’s flagship contemporary dance company. It was formed by Marie Rambert, a polish teacher of dance. The Rambert Dance Company ‘s roots stem from 1919 in London where Marie RAmbert started teaching dance under the name of the Rambert School.

In 1926 the Rambert School officially morphed into the Rambert Dance Company. So in fact, the Rambert is Britain’s longest running dance company. Some of the key tenets of Marie Rambert’s teachings were that individual creativity, feeling, and integrity were to be highly valued and encouraged. Rambert summed this up in her famous proclamation that her dancers would not be churned out of “a sausage factory”. Perhaps as a result of this drive for individual expression, the Rambert Company is also famous for its exciting and inventive involvement with composers, musicians, visual artists as well as set and costume designers.
